May 1st is National Law Day
In 1957, the American Bar Association (ABA) envisioned a day for celebrating the legal system. In 1958, President Dwight D. Eisenhower established Law Day as a national dedication to the principles of government under law. Finally, in 1961, Congress designated May 1 as the official date for celebrating Law Day.
Today, we celebrate how the legal process contributes to the freedoms we all share. We also recognize the role of the courts in this democracy and the importance of jury service to maintain the integrity of our courts.
