Dawn M. Gibson represents businesses and individuals with civil litigation and appeals, employment law, and immigration law needs. She is also experienced in healthcare law, including defense of medical malpractice claims and assistance with professional credentialing and licensure issues. Ms. Gibson is a member of the Linn County, Johnson County, Iowa, and Federal Bar Associations, as well as the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Originally from Council Bluffs, Iowa, Ms. Gibson earned her bachelor’s degree in Global Studies and International Business Certificate from the University of Iowa. She earned her JD from the University of Iowa College of Law, followed by a clerkship for the Honorable John A. Jarvey. Ms. Gibson joined Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2007. She represents clients before Iowa’s state and federal courts, administrative agencies, and is also admitted to practice before the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Rae M. Kinkead is a family law attorney and mediator in the firm’s family law practice group. She represents individuals in all aspects of domestic relations, including but not limited to: divorce, property division, child custody, visitation, and support, premarital agreements, and domestic violence. She also represents individuals in other circumstances affecting families, such as adoption, guardianships, conservatorships, and elder abuse. She is an experienced litigator and is well-versed in mediation and limited representation. She also works in appellate advocacy, challenging and defending trial court decisions.
Ms. Kinkead earned a BA in Political Science and Religion from Schreiner University in Kerrville, TX. She earned her JD from the Vermont Law School in 2013, followed by a clerkship for the Third Judicial District of Iowa in Sioux City. Ms. Kinkead joined Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2014. She earned the Mosten Basic Divorce Mediation Training Certificate in 2016, completed the American Bar Association's Family Law Trial Advocacy Program held by the National Institute for Trial Advocacy in 2015, and she completed the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyer’s Institute for Family Law Associates Advanced Training in 2018.

Abram V. Carls joined Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2016. He practices primarily within the commercial litigation, banking litigation and bankruptcy practice areas. Mr. Carls routinely advises on tort claims, contract disputes, secured transactions, and collections matters, and counsels clients throughout various stages of the civil litigation process, both federal and state. Mr. Carls' prior experience in agricultural and business debtor representation provides useful insight into agricultural restructurings and liquidations and he provides guidance to creditors and banking institutions on their rights in bankruptcy proceedings and loan collection and foreclosure.
Mr. Carls graduated with distinction from the University of Iowa College of Law where he earned recognition for his multidisciplinary scholarship in innovation, business, and law and Dean’s Awards for outstanding academic achievement. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Iowa in civil engineering and business management. Prior to private practice, Mr. Carls clerked for the Honorable Thad J. Collins, Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Iowa. Mr. Carls is admitted to practice before the state courts of Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota, federal district courts in Illinois and Iowa, and the Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.

Nicholas Petersen is a litigation attorney with experience serving individuals and businesses in complex disputes in federal and state court, including before the Iowa Business Specialty Court. Primary issues relating to these cases have included business torts, contracts, and employment litigation. He is licensed to practice law in Iowa and California. Mr. Petersen is a member of the Linn County, Johnson County, and Iowa Bar Associations, as well as the Dean Mason Ladd American Inn of Court.
Mr. Petersen attended the University of Iowa where he earned a BS in Biomedical Engineering and a BA in Journalism. He earned his JD from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law in 2012. Prior to joining Simmons Perrine Moyer Bergman PLC in 2015, Mr. Petersen was a litigation attorney for a law firm in Palo Alto, CA.
